I, like many others, decided to take the opportunity to try my hand at something new. I delved into the world of dough and bread making, starting with basic baguettes and sourdough breads before eventually experimenting with Neapolitan and Roman pizza. Pizza, or flatbread with toppings, is a beloved comfort food enjoyed around the globe, which is why I became interested in it. - Richard Rostom
tom&mutz began as a pizzeria with the goal of offering high-quality, affordable pizza that respected the traditional Neapolitan style, but with an American twist on the toppings. As time went on, the concept evolved into an Italian-American restaurant, inspired by the classic Italian eateries of New York, which were owned by post-World War II Italian immigrants who adapted their native cuisine to incorporate the abundance of meat and chicken in their new homeland.
At tom&mutz, our philosophy is to respect the technique and ingredients of traditional Italian cuisine, yet have the playfulness and willingness to introduce new flavors. This is why we don't refer to ourselves as an Italian restaurant, as we go beyond the boundaries of the conventional and traditional, much like the Italian immigrants of New York did.
Our reimagined flavors categorizes us into a newly found definition of Italian-American cuisine, surpassing the boundaries of the otherwise typical offering. True to the nature of life, we too have evolved the flavors, merging culture and food. We are beyond excited to leave our mark!
